WILLMAR - Dorothy M. Mattson, 97, of Willmar, died Saturday, July 6th at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar. Her funeral will be 2:00 pm, Wednesday, July 10th at Tripolis Evangelical Lutheran Church, rural Kandiyohi. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. www.hafh.org
Dorothy was born on January 19, 1916, in Willmar, Minnesota, the daughter of Barclay and Bertha (Berkness) McCutchan. She attended her elementary schooling at District 109 and graduated from Willmar High School in 1935.
On November 4, 1936, she was united in marriage to Edwin Bud Mattson at the Lutheran Free parsonage in Willmar. Following their marriage, they farmed and lived in Kandiyohi and Fahlun Townships, south of Kandiyohi. Dorothy stayed home to raise her son, and also babysat for her grandchildren. Bud preceded Dorothy in death on June 2, 1977.
She was baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran Free Church in Willmar and was a member of Tripolis Evangelical Lutheran Church. Dorothy had served as secretary, treasurer and circle chairwoman as well as a Mission Representative and Bethesda Homes Representative. Dorothy also belonged to the Tripolis Quilters for several years.
Her family remembers her wonderful baked goods, beautiful flower gardens and bountiful vegetable gardens of which she shared generously. After Buds death, Dorothy became a volunteer for Rice Memorial Hospital of which she did for several years.
Surviving are her son, Bruce (and Janice) Mattson of Lake Lillian; three grandchildren, Sandy (and Curt) Stierler, Scott Mattson and Steve Mattson; five great grandchildren, Ashley, Rory, Kiley, Jacob and Derek and three great grandchildren, Ethan, Lucas and Sophie.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Marvel McCutchan.
