Dorothy P. Torgerson Jan. 18, 1933 - March 6, 2009
CLARKFIELD -- Dorothy Patricia Torgerson, 76, of Clarkfield died Friday at her home after a battle against ALS.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Community Bible Church of Montevideo. Burial will be in the Clarkfield City Cemetery at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Lynner Funeral Home of Clarkfield with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m.
She was born Jan. 18, 1933, to Ruth Falstad and Paul Pedersen. She grew up on a farm near Valley City, N.D. She attended Green Country School before graduating from Valley City College High in 1952. After graduation, she moved to Fargo, N.D. She moved to Colorado in 1957. She earned a two-year teaching degree at Valley City State Teachers College in 1963. She moved to Columbia Falls, Mont., where she taught third grade for three years before returning to college to complete her four-year degree. She taught in Granite Falls Elementary from 1967 to 1970.
She married Curtis Torgerson of Clarkfield on July 19, 1969. In 1975, she began teaching again as a Title I Teacher at H.A. Hagg Elementary in Clarkfield until she retired in 1999 after 27 years of service to Yellow Medicine East School District.
She volunteered at Special Touch summer camp near Foston for challenged children for many years. She went on a mission trip to Belize, taught Sunday school for many years and served on the board at the Valhalla Apartments.
She is survived by her husband; children: Mark and Michelle; stepmother: Synova; siblings: Gerald, Earl, Bertel, David, Carol, Pamella and Diane.
