Dorthy R. Bakken Sept. 20, 1918 - April 2, 2009
WILLMAR -- Dorthy Rae Bakken, 90, of Willmar died Thursday at Rice Care Center in Willmar.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to Calvary Lutheran Church or Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center.
She was born on Sept. 20, 1918, in St. Peter, to Roy and Esther (Hallander) Johnson. She grew up in St. Peter and graduated from St. Peter High School.
She married Doaine Bakken on May 10, 1941 in Shakopee. They later moved to Willmar where he worked with First Federal Savings and Loan Association. In 2004, she entered Rice Care Center.
She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar, serving with circle, altar guild and Stephen's Ministry. She helped developing a sewing club that has been active for more than 60 years.
She is survived by three daughters: Karin (and John) Gilbertson, Linda (and Wayne) Nelson, and Mary (and Russell) Merlin Pelkey, all of Willmar; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; siblings: Elaine Webster of Minnetonka, Julie (and Gerald) Kehrli of Roseberg, Ore., and Roy Johnson of Spokane, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1985.
