SPICER - Douglas D. Baumann, 83, of Spicer, died Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. His funeral will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, February 2nd at Evangelical Free Church Chapel in Willmar. Burial will be Spicer City Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Douglas Dayton Baumann was born on August 5, 1929, in Oberlin, Ohio, the son of John and Talena (Van Heuveln) Baumann. He grew up in Raymond, Minnesota where he attended elementary and graduated from high school in 1947. He served in the United States Navy from 1948 until his honorable discharge in 1950. In 1952, he was united in marriage to Patricia Jones.

On August 17, 1978, he was united in marriage to Marlene Severance in Sioux Falls, SD. Following their marriage, he continued to work as a salesman. He was a member of MENSA and was also a member of Evangelical Free Church in Willmar.

Doug was a man of strong faith, speaking daily to his family and anyone who would listen of the blessings he was given. He always had a positive attitude, staying upbeat throughout his life by enjoying the company of friends and family. He was a successful businessman, selling commercial lighting and creating long standing relationships with companies across the Midwest. He was an avid reader, often reading several books a day. He was a selfless man, always making sure everyone else had the things they desired. His greatest love of all was spending each day with his wife and children. He will be remembered as a happy, friendly husband and father who had a great sense of humor with a fantastic personality.

Surviving are his wife, Marlene of Spicer; children, Barbara (and John) Sullivan of Eugene, OR; Mike (and Alena) Baumann of Sandpoint, ID; James (and Suki) Baumann of Puyallup, WA; Julie Short of Vancouver, WA; Jill (and Ralph) Caughman of Meridian, ID; Timothy Johnston of Minneapolis, MN; Douglas (and Liz) Baumann of Lafayette, IN; Kari Baumann of Spicer; 12 grandchildren and one great grandson. Also surviving is his sister, Sandra (and Ron) Westby of Moorhead, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sons, Brian and Craig and sister, Dolores.
