Downed wire halts light-rail service in Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- A Metro Transit spokesman says light-rail service has been halted in downtown Minneapolis because of a downed wire that powers the trains from overhead.

Transit spokesman Bob Gibbons says the 75-volt wire broke soon after 10 a.m. today at the station near the Metrodome. He tells the Star Tribune of Minneapolis that no one was hurt and there was no fire.

Gibbons says service is suspended from Target Field on the west end of downtown to the Franklin Avenue station. He says Metro Transit buses are filling the void.

KSTP-TV reports that light-rail service is expected to be running by the evening rush hour.
