Dr. A. Paul Martens Jan. 22, 1940 - Nov. 7, 2008
WILLMAR -- Dr. Adelfred Paul Martens, 68, of Willmar, died Nov. 7, near Little Falls from injuries received in an automobile accident.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Willmar.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
He was born Jan. 22, 1940, in Tyler to Alfred and Lydia (Krueger) Martens. He grew up in New Prague and graduated from New Prague High School. He attended Bethany Bible College in Mankato and Logan Chiropractic College in St. Louis, Mo., graduating in 1963. He began his practice in New Ulm.
He married Kathleen Hjelle on June 15, 1968, in Stephen. They moved to Auburn, Wash., in 1970 and moved to Willmar in 1971. He started his own chiropractic clinic. He went into semi-retirement in 2000 and they lived part time at their lake home near Brainerd.
He was a member of the Minnesota Chiropractic Association, the Willmar Kiwanis and Rotary Club and was a Cub Scout leader. He was a former member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in New Ulm where he was an elder and Sunday school teacher and a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar at the time of his death where he was an elder and on the outreach committee.
He is survived by his wife; three children: Dan Martens of Willmar, Lisa (and Toby) Stevens of St. Michael and Scott Martens of Minneapolis; two grandchildren; two sisters: JoAnn (and Arn) Heyer of Monroe, Mich., and Marty Kramer of Grand Rapids.
