Drive cautiously during holiday weekend
WILLMAR — While work will be suspended on road construction projects over the holiday weekend, motorists are still encouraged to stay alert, according to a statement from the Minnesota Department of Public Transportation.
Drivers will still encounter lane closures and detours and should be cautious during the Labor Day holiday, said MnDOT officials.
The road construction project south of Benson on state Highway 29 could cause delays. Traffic is currently detoured to U.S. Highway 12, Swift County Road 31/Chippewa County Road 4 and state Highway 40.
MnDOT urges drivers to obey posted speed limits to avoid a $300 fine, stay off cell phones and move over one lane and reduce speed for emergency or maintenance vehicles.
Motorists can expect work zones to constantly change. Day to day, lane shifts, closures or moving workers and vehicles might be present on roadways.
