Driver dies in crash in Fairfax

FAIRFAX -- One person died and eight others were injured, one of them critically, in a three-vehicle crash Friday evening at the junction of Minnesota Highway 4 and Highway 19 in Fairfax.

The Minnesota State Patrol said Jason Petty, 39, of Seaforth, the driver of a 2010 Honda Civic, died of injuries sustained in the crash.

Xiong K. Moua, 44, of Eau Claire, Wis., a passenger in a 1999 Toyota Sienna van, sustained critical injuries. The van's driver, 19-year-old See Moua of Eau Claire, Wis., received nonlife-threatening injuries. Also injured were six other passengers in the van: See Lo, 18; Dej Lee, 15; Plau Lee, 5; Chong Lee, 11; Pebtsimmeej Lee, 9; and Nkaujh Lee, 4. All were from Eau Claire.

The third vehicle involved in the crash, a 2007 International semi tractor, was driven by Alvin Suess, 67, of Jacksonville, Ill., who was not injured.

In addition to the State Patrol, the Fairfax Police Department, Renville County Sheriff's Office, Fairfax Ambulance and Fire Department, Franklin Ambulance and Fire Department and Hector Ambulance all were at the scene.
