According to a news release from Lac qui Parle County Sheriff Rick Halverson, his office received a 911 call around 7:40 p.m. that the hunters were stuck on the island and had lost their way to the boat landing. The group's boat had gotten stuck and they were unable to continue due to the inclement weather.

Sheriff's deputies and the Department of Natural Resources responded and located the group, transporting them via boat to the boat landing.

Also responding were the Appleton police and ambulance, Swift County Sheriff's office and the State Patrol.
