The Huskies offense touched up Stingers’ starter Kurt Yinger for 11 hits and three runs, striking first in the second inning on left fielder Austin Darby’s two-run double.

They added on in the sixth on Trent Chatterton’s sacrifice fly, and got to reliever Ben Gullo for one run in the ninth on Keach Ballard’s run-scoring base hit.

Six different Huskies had multiple hits, with center fielder Michael Tinsley leading the way with a 3-for-4 night.

Losing pitcher Yinger went six innings, striking out six and walking one.

Reagan Fowler recorded two of the Stingers’ five hits, and Nick Rivera notched a double.

The Stingers, who left seven men on base in the game, had their best scoring opportunity in the first when Fowler and Rivera had back-to-back hits, but Fowler was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.

The Stingers fell to 8-6 in the Northwoods League North Division second half and are tied with Mankato for third place.

They next play 7:05 p.m. today against Duluth at Bill Taunton Stadium.

Duluth’s Michaels wins HR Derby

Duluth designated hitter Alex Michaels won a pregame home run derby, that pitted him and Michael Tinsley against Willmar’s Nick Rivera and Brady Anderson.

Michaels hit seven in the first round to advance, and hit one in the second round to beat Rivera.

Neither Stinger participant recorded a home run, but Rivera advanced to the second round on a judge’s decision for hitting the warning track with one of his swings.
