Earl Wevley Sept. 14, 1924 - Sept. 27, 2009
MORRIS -- Earl William Wevley, 85, of Morris died Sunday at the Green Pines Acres Nursing Home in Menahga.
The services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church in Morris.
Visitation will be for two hours prior to the service at the church. Military honors by VFW Post 5039, American Legion Post 29 and AmVets of Morris. Arrangements are with Wevley Funeral Home of Sebeka. Memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church, Stevens County Historical Society, or Morris VFW Baseball.
He was born Sept. 14, 1924, in Winneshiek County, Iowa, to Karl and Carolina (Amundson) Wevley. The family moved to Barnesville in 1929 and to Morris in 1939. He worked as a farmhand for area farmers. He joined the Army in 1944, and served as a heavy artillery gun crewman in the Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
He married Leola Kussatz on Feb. 11, 1946. From 1954 to the 1990s, he farmed in Framnas Township, Stevens County. He was a member of the Morris American Legion and the VFW and served as a commander of the VFW. He also served as a Framnas Township supervisor for many years and was a member of First Lutheran Church in Morris. He moved to a nursing home after having health issues and was living at Green Pines Acres Nursing Home in Menahga.
He is survived by his children: Vernon (and Leona) Wevley of Moorhead; Alice (and Dennis) Pietrek of Sturgeon Lake; Willard (and Paula) Wevley of Menahga; David Wevley of St. Louis Park; Eric (and Karla) Wevley of Stoughton, Wis., and Aaron Wevley of Willmar; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings: Melvina Larson of Morris, Delbert Wevley of Kingston, Kan., Darlene (and Doyle) Wald of Springfield, Ore., Ione Quam of Ashby, Knute (and Joann) Wevley of Apple Valley and Mary (and Dean) Pasche of Ashland, Ore.
He was preceded in death by his wife; son: Lars; three sisters; and four brothers.
