Early outburst allows Rox to drub Stingers, win 4th in row
ST. CLOUD -- On Sunday the Willmar Stingers set a franchise record by scoring 16 runs. Then they scored 21 in another win over the Rochester Honkers a day later. Willmar didn't up its record on Tuesday, but it did set another mark, one it doesn't want.
The St. Cloud Rox scored four runs in three separate innings and plated five in another en route to hammering the Stingers 18-5 at Joe Faber Field.
The 18 runs are the most the Stingers have given up in a game in their short history.
On a positive note for Willmar, Kenny Roberts hit his eighth homer of the season, a solo shot with two outs in the second inning. Corben Green later singled in two runs in the ninth.
St. Cloud pounded out 19 hits against three Willmar pitchers. The Rox were also aided by eight walks and six Willmar errors. The Stingers managed nine hits with Green and Matt Suchy, who scored twice, getting two each.
The two teams square off again today and Thursday at Bill Taunton Stadium in Willmar.
