Eden Valley boy hurt in 50-foot snowmobile plunge

EDEN VALLEY -- An Eden Valley boy was injured Saturday evening when the snowmobile he was riding flew off the edge of a gravel pit. The 16-year-old, who was not identified, fell 40 to 50 feet before landing in the frozen sand, according to a news release from the Stearns County Sheriff's Department.

He was treated for injuries at the St. Cloud Hospital.

The incident was reported at 4:32 p.m. Saturday on private property in Eden Valley Township. The youth was driving a snowmobile in an unfamiliar area when he drove up a hill that abruptly ended into a gravel pit.

The accident is under investigation.
