Editorial: Drive safe on this holiday weekend
Memorial Day Weekend has arrived in west central Minnesota, which is the unofficial start of the summer season.
Many have headed for a weekend at the lake cabin or a family gathering. Other may be headed for class reunion or community gathering.
All are traveling again on their return home Sunday or Monday.
This weekend is a good time to focus on safe driving, for your sake and your family. Minnesota is also in the midst of a statewide "Click It or Ticket" seat belt enforcement campaign.
Minnesota has a preliminary count of 99 traffic deaths to this point.
We are entering the historically deadly Memorial Day weekend, a period that included 25 deaths in the past two years.
This is a good time to focus on your driving. So "Click It," leave your mobile phone in your office, ignore any distractions in your car -- like tuning your radio -- and watch the road ahead and behind you.
Everyone wants you to reach your destination safely. You do not want to be the subject of a tragic Minnesota roadway story.
Drive safe and have a safe holiday weekend.
