Safe Avenues of Willmar provides safety, support and empowerment for victims of abuse and families in turmoil.

This worthy and needed organization is holding its Hope for Tomorrow gala and auction tonight at the Willmar Conference Center. The excellent event is sold out.

Children’s advocate Patty Wetterling of St. Joseph will be the featured speaker for the evening. Wetterling has become a nationally known child advocate, following the 1989 abduction of her 11-year-old son, Jacob.

Wetterling and her family have been searching for 23 years for Jacob and working to find other missing children across the country.

America has improved in finding missing kids, Wetterling said. The percentage of missing kids returned now averages about 97 percent, compared to 65 percent in the 1980s.

Advocates like Wetterling and Safe Avenues continue raising public awareness about abuse and sexual violence and aiding those in need.

Safe Avenues plays a valuable  role in our community by providing needed safety, support and empowerment for victims of abuse and families in turmoil.

If you are not attending Safe Avenues’s gala and auction tonight, you can still support the organization. Just visit their Website,, and click on the “donate” or “get involved” buttons.
