Editorial: Take time to give a bit during holidays

The holiday season of 2008 is upon us, a time of giving and celebration.

This year things are tough for many around America and for some right here in west central Minnesota as well. The tough economy, which has hit individual families hard across the country, is also challenging the many charities which serve those in need.

- The economic hard times have cut contributions for many charitable organizations.

- Demand has increased at charitable organizations as more families and individuals are in need of help, some for the first time.

- The falling stock market has also hit hard at the investments of various charity organizations.

Thus the overall need for charitable giving is significant this year.

In Kandiyohi County, there are several charitable organizations helping the needy this holiday season.

We encourage you to consider contributing to these worthy organizations:

- Warm The Children

- Salvation Army

- United Way of Kandiyohi County

- Willmar Area Food Shelf.

We encourage support as well for similar organizations throughout the counties of west central Minnesota.
