Editorial: YMCA campaign is worthy effort
The Kandiyohi County Area Family YMCA is nearly halfway to its $3 million capital campaign goal.
That is a very good start.
Some of the major contributors to this community effort include: Jennie-O Turkey Store, Affiliated Community Medical Centers, MinnWest Technology Campus, the Linder family and Duininck Companies.
The YMCA opened in 2002 following a six-year effort to plan, fund and build the new facility designed for 3,000 members.
A decade later, the YMCA has a membership of more than 5,800 — nearly twice the current building’s capacity.
The current campaign will fund a building project that will:
• Expand the Wellness Center;
• Build a new multi-purpose gymnasium with a track;
• Build a large wellness studio;
• Build a specialized room for special needs classes and ready-to-be-fit exercisers;
• Build two racquetball courts.
The YMCA in Willmar has long been a community-based effort, first founded in 1996 by a group of local citizens. The YMCA’s leadership now developed this building proposal to meet the organization’s program and facility needs through its next decade.
The YMCA’s capital campaign is a worthy investment in this organization and the Kandiyohi County community. We encourage individuals, businesses and organization to help the YMCA complete this capital campaign.
