Edward A. Olson, age 86 of Willmar formerly of Kandiyohi died on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. His memorial service will be 11:00 am, Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the United Methodist Church in Willmar. Visitation will be from 5-7pm, Wednesday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. www.hafh.org
Edward was born on June 7, 1928 in Willmar, the son of Oscar C. and Frieda (Johnson) Olson. He grew up in Willmar and graduated from Willmar High School in the class of 1946. An August 11, 1951, he was united in marriage to Lorelee Peterson in Willmar. He was drafted in 1953 and served in the U.S. Army, receiving an Honorable Discharge in February of 1954. He was employed with Quinn Implement from 1945 until 1959 and then for the U.S. Postal Service for the next 30 years. He retired as Postmaster of Kandiyohi in 1989 and moved to Willmar in April 2014.
Edward was a member of the United Methodist Church in Willmar where he served on many committees and as head usher for many years.
Edward was a member of American Legion Post #167 where he served as Chaplin and was a member of the Military Honor Guard, performing funeral honors for numerous Veterans. He was also a member of the D.A.V., National Association of Postmasters, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and Past President of the Kandiyohi Mens Club. He adopted a highway in 1991 that he maintained for several years.
Edward was also a past Cub Scout Master, Willmar Jaycees, volunteer for Meals-On-Wheels, and volunteer Red Cross blood donor, over 6 gallons.
He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting fishing and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Lorelee of Willmar, sons: Ross (and Sharon) Olson of Willmar and Chad Olson (and Special friend Mary Ann Enger) of Montevideo; two grandchildren: Nichole (and Dave) McChesney and Eric Olson and two great-grandchildren; brother Earl Olson of North St. Paul; sisters-in-law: Elaine Olson of Raymond, Evonne Olson of Apple Valley, Shirley Hulst of Willmar, Carol Gores of Willmar and brother-in-law Bob (and Sheila) Peterson of Montana and several nieces and nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Harry, Mauritz, Richard and sister Joyce Keehl.
