Edward Steffel Dec. 20, 1938 - June 17, 2009
OLIVIA -- Edward James Steffel, 70, of Olivia, died Wednesday at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home in Olivia, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., and from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
He was born Dec. 20, 1938, in Olivia to Joseph and Theresa (Tauber) Steffel. He attended country school in Kingman Township, Renville County, and then assisted on the family farm.
He married Karen Kopel on May 7, 1960, in Bird Island. They lived and farmed north of Olivia. He also operated a butcher shop, Steffel Processing, on the farm since 1982.
He is survived by his wife; six children: Cindy (and Jeff) Vosika of Olivia, Theresa (and Brian) Olinger of Hector, Tom (and Joy) Steffel of Olivia, Gary (and Margaret) Steffel of Olivia, Jean (and Kevin) Clouse of Olivia and Bob (and Terri) Steffel of Hutchinson; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four siblings: Arlene Leach of Bird Island, Louisa (and John) Serbus of Olivia, Ernest (and Sharon) Steffel of Olivia and Gladys McClendon of Robbinsdale.
He was preceded in death by one grandson and two brothers.
