Fischbach to take Minnesota lieutenant governor oath

WILLMAR -- Edwin Harold Wallentine, 78, of Willmar died Thursday at his home.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Pennock. Burial will be at Cloverleaf Cemetery in Willmar. Memorials are preferred to Mamrelund Lutheran Church.

Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and for one hour prior to the service at the church.

He was born Nov. 30, 1930, in Whitefield Township, Kandiyohi County, to Harold and Edla (Bengtson) Wallentine. He grew up near Svea where he attended school. He worked with his father at the Svea Blacksmith Shop. He worked in construction and helped build the Fort Randall Dam near Pickstown, S.D. He served in the Army from 1952 to 1954, during the Korean War.

He married Arnette Larson on Aug. 20, 1955, in Pennock. They lived in Clara City for one year where he worked for DeRuyter Road Construction. In 1956, they moved to rural Willmar where they took over his wife's parent's farm, retiring in 1991. He worked part time for Liebl Farms helping with field and repair work until 1997.

He is survived by his wife; children: Larry (and Dawn) Wallentine of Raymond, Lon Wallentine of Willmar, Lyle (and Kathryn) Wallentine of Squaw Lake, Lois Wallentine of Prior Lake and Loren Wallentine of Willmar; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a sister: Donna Teigen of Kitchener, Ontario.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.
