Edwin Swanson June 7, 1930 - Nov. 29, 2008
COSMOS -- Edwin Delwayne "Delly" Swanson, 78, of Cosmos, died Saturday at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church in rural Cosmos. Burial will be in the First Lutheran Church Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by Litchfield Military Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
He was born June 7, 1930, in Minneapolis to Edwin and Mildred (Berlin) Swanson. He grew up near Cosmos and attended country school District 82. He joined the U.S. Army in 1952, and served overseas during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1953. He returned home to the family farm where he farmed and studied to be an electrician. He was employed at Seneca Foods as a combine driver from 1990 to 2002.
He married Myrta Henke on Sept. 2, 1967, in Watertown, S.D.
He is survived by his wife; daughters: Sandra (and Christopher) Jannusch of St. Cloud and Kristin (and Kenneth) Cote of Cosmos; step-daughter Cynthia (and Dean) Olson of Bloomington; seven grandchildren; siblings: Grace Kaping of Litchfield, Miriam (and David) Rahn of Hutchinson and Margaret (and Michael) Davis of Minnetrista, John (and Jane) Swanson of Aitken, Ray (and Donna) Swanson of Lester Prairie, and Nels (and Vickie) Swanson of Hutchinson.
He was preceded in death by her parents; a stepmother: Elise; a brother; a step-daughter: Sherlyn Marquardt; and a grandson.
