WILLMAR -- The final Environmental Impact Statement has been published for proposed improvements to Highways 23 and 71 north of Willmar.
The statement has been published by the Minnesota Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration.
The report covers reconstruction of a 3.5-mile common section from the point where the roads split in northern Dovre Township south to the point where Business 71 splits off at the northern edge of Willmar. The project also includes construction of interchanges at a relocated County Road 90 and at County Road 25.
The EIS documents the purpose and need for the project, the reasons for selecting the preferred alternative, the anticipated social, economic, and environmental impacts, and the proposed mitigation commitments.
Copies of the EIS are available for public viewing beginning today at local government offices, the Willmar Public Library, and at www. projects.dot.state.mn. us/seh/2371. Comments on the adequacy of the EIS will be accepted through July 26.
Comments should be sent to Lowell Flaten, MnDOT Project Manager, 2505 Transportation Road, Willmar, MN 56201 or via e-mail at lowell.flaten@ state.mn.us.
