NEW HOPE - Elaine E. Melin, 83, of New Hope, died Sunday, October 20, 2013 at her home in New Hope. Her service will be 1:00 pm, Friday, October 25, 2013 at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment is in at Cloverleaf Cemetery, in Willmar. www.hafh.org
Elaine was born on February 28, 1930, on a farm, near Murdock, Minnesota, the daughter of Delbert and Gladys (Erickson) Johnson. She grew up near Murdock and graduated from Murdock High School in 1948, 1st in her class. On July 24, 1948, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Melin at Zion Lutheran Church in Louriston Township. Following their marriage, they lived in Pennock while Ken worked on the railroad. After Ken was transferred to Minot, North Dakota, Elaine stayed in Pennock and eventually Ken was transferred to Minneapolis. In 1960, Elaine moved to Crystal and in 1969 to New Hope where they built their home.
Besides working on the railroad, Ken and Elaine owned and operated a cleaning service for a number of years. They had a lake home on Lake Florida, of which they built also, and enjoyed spending time at. Elaine liked doing crossword puzzles, crypto quip, playing cards and could always be seen and heard talking on the phone.
Surviving are her children, David (and Joanne) Melin of Coon Rapids; Becky (and Gary) Nickolauson of Brooklyn Park; Debbie (and K.C.) LaFavor of Duluth; Karen Melin of New Hope; Mark Melin of Spicer; brother, Kenneth (and Jeanne) Johnson of Willmar; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Also surviving is his son-in-law, Steve Stueve of Maple Grove.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ken in 2000; daughter, Pam Stueve and brother, Donnie Johnson.
