WILLMAR - Elaine I. Holt, 91, of Willmar formerly of Sacred Heart died Tuesday, October 22, 2013, at Bethesda Pleasantview in Willmar. Her funeral will be 11:00am on Monday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Sacred Heart. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-6pm on Sunday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and continue one hour prior to the service at the church. www.hafh.org
Elaine Ingrid Holt was born on March 27, 1922, to Sven Edwin and Ethel (Noren) Johnson in St. Cloud, Minnesota. She was baptized at Salem Lutheran Church in St. Cloud. At the age of 13 years old, she moved with her family to Echo, Minnesota. She was confirmed at the American Lutheran Church in Echo and graduated from Echo High School in 1940. Following graduation, she attended business school in St. Cloud for one year. She returned to Echo and worked at the bank. In June of 1942, Elaine was united in marriage to Jerome Evanson in Echo. They lived in Bremerton, WA, where Jerome was stationed with the US Navy. To this union three children were born. Jerome passed away in 1948. Elaine returned to the Belview area, and married Melvin "Pete" Holt at Grace Lutheran Church Parsonage on July 24, 1949. To this union three children were born. They moved to Sacred Heart in 1956, where they raised their family and also owned Airway Lockers.
Elaine was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Sacred Heart where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and church council member, and was also active with Ladies Aid, Circle Bible Study, and the quilting group.
In earlier years, she served as a Girl Scout Leader, participated in the Village Chest Drive, served as an election judge and was a Junior Great Books Volunteer at Sacred Heart Elementary School.
Elaine enjoyed crocheting and quilting, crossword puzzles, reading and baking. She always looked forward to spending time with family and friends at Lake Florida and entertaining. Elaine was an avid Vikings and Twins fan and enjoyed watching the games. She was proud of her Swedish heritage and would sing Swedish songs with her sisters. She moved to Copperleaf in Willmar in 2009 and later to Bethesda Pleasantview.
Surviving are her children: Richard (and Mary) Evanson of Pahrump, NV, Ingrid Evanson (and friend, Steve Effertz) of Jordan, MN, Kathryn (and Lou) Schneider of Spooner, WI, Peter (and Karen) Holt of Fort Collins, CO, and Nancy Holt of Willmar; six grandchildren: Eric (and Erin) Meyer, Amy (and Paul) Westman, Jeremy Meyer, Edward (and Patty) Evanson, Quincy (and Matt) Sinele, Adam Holt; three step-grandchildren: Christine Schneider, Curtis Schneider and Steven Schneider; and great-grandchildren: Thomas, William, Sierra, Alexandra, Abigail, Xen, Oz, Zara, Evan and Nyah; and great-great-grandson, Sean. Also surviving are her sisters, Alice (and Leslie) Zimmer, Linnea (and Chauncey) Balfany and sister-in-law, Beuella Johnson and son-in-law David Thompson and his family.
In addition to her first husband, Jerome, she was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Lisa Holt-Thompson in 1999, husband, Melvin "Pete", and brother, Carlyle Johnson and sister Vivian Slettedahl.
