Elderly Minnesota man found dead in Iowa ditch

ALGONA, Iowa - Authorities say the body of an 86-year-old Minnesota man has been found in rural Kossuth County.

Kossuth County Sheriff Steve Kollasch says the body of Kenneth Eldon Reed of Elmore, Minnesota was found lying in a ditch in a rural area near the Iowa-Minnesota state line.

Authorities believe Reed was driving to his farm late Saturday when he became stuck in a snowdrift. He tried to dig the vehicle out, then started walking to get help. Police say about three quarters of a mile from his farm, Reed collapsed into a ditch and died.

Authorities say Reeds body was discovered by a passing motorist about three miles south of Elmore.

Kollasch says an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death. He adds no foul play is suspected.
