Electrical fire reported Saturday in Spicer

SPICER -- An electrical fire caused damage to wires, an electrical box and the exterior siding of a home Saturday afternoon. The incident was reported at 2:15 p.m. at 110 Beach Street. The Spicer Fire Department was on the scene for about 1½ hours, according to Dean Fernelius, Spicer assistant fire chief.

The fire caused the wires in the electrical box in the basement to melt. The siding and wood planks underneath the siding were also burned. Firefighters had to ventilate the house to remove smoke and odors.

Xcel Energy was called to turn off the power to the house so that an electrician could make necessary repairs, said Fernelius.

It's not known what caused the fire to start.
