REDWOOD FALLS -- Elfie Claye Doepke, 87, of Redwood Falls and formerly of Franklin, died Tuesday at Redwood Area Hospital in Redwood Falls.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Morton. Burial will be in Christ Lutheran Cemetery in Wanda.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Nelson-Martin Funeral Service in Redwood Falls and for one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
She was born May 21, 1922, in Kansas to James Howard Salle and Hetty (Bliss) Salle. When she was a child, she moved with her family to Morton where she grew up and received her education. She graduated from Morton High School in 1939.
In 1942, she married Armin "Speed" Doepke, and they lived in Redwood Falls and then Wanda. While Speed entered the military, she worked in a dental office in Texas where they lived, and then she returned to Morton while he was overseas. After his return, they settled in Minneapolis where she worked in clothing sales and modeling. After Speed died in 1971, she moved to Reno, Nev., with her sister and was employed as a nurse's aide for 20 years. She returned to live in Franklin in 1995.
She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Morton.
She is survived by her son: Brad (and Pat) Doepke of Bloomington; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and one sister.
