BELGRADE - Pauline Hagen, age 86, of Belgrade, died on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at the Belgrade Nursing Home in Belgrade. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 on Monday, May 13, 2013, at Grace Lutheran Church in Belgrade. Burial will be at Grace Lutheran West Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Sunday night from 5-7:00 pm at the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade, and continue one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Grace Lutheran Church or Gausdal Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Ellen Pauline Hagen was born on June 11, 1926, in Curlew, IA, the daughter of Henry and Wilhelmina (Large) Rath. Her family moved to Spicer in 1931. She attended District 26 country school while living there. In 1937, they moved to Colfax Township where she completed her schooling at District 13 country school.

On August 4, 1945, Pauline was united in marriage to Orville Hagen at the Zion Lutheran Church parsonage in Belgrade. This union was blessed with two sons. The family made their home in rural Georgeville where they farmed. Pauline also spent many years working at Coast to Coast in Belgrade. In 1985, Pauline and Orville retired and moved into Belgrade. On August 16, 1990, Orville passed away; they were able to share in 45 years of marriage.

Pauline was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and VFW Saboe-Levorson Post #1825 Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, she and the boys tended to two large vegetable gardens while living on the farm. She loved to refer to herself as a "tough old farmer." Pauline also kept flower gardens, loved to fish, and volunteer at the Nutrition Center. She also made beautiful intricate needlework. When she and Orville were younger, they were known to dance into the late hours and then meet friends at Hillcrest for a 2 AM heartburn inducing breakfast.

Pauline Hagen died on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at the Belgrade Nursing Home, she was 86. Pauline is survived by her sons, Wayne (Mary) of Belgrade, and James (Barbara) of Marion, IA; grandchildren, Heather Paynter, Holly Hagen (fiancé, Scott Specken), Christopher (April) Hagen, and Katie (David) Goldberg; and great granddaughter, Morgan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Orville; sisters, Naomi and Maxine, and brothers, Albert and Harry.
