MORA -- Elmer H. G. Moe, 85, of Mora died Friday at the Villa Health Care Center in Mora after a struggle with cancer.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Mora. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Mora. Memorials are preferred to a scholarship fund being established in his honor to help youth from Mora's Boy Scout Troop 191 pursue degrees in higher education or the Calvary Lutheran's basement renovation project.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Akkerman-Ingebrand Funeral Home in Mora and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
He was born Aug. 7, 1923, in Sunburg to Jacob and Geoline (Glesne) Moe. He grew up in New London and graduated in 1942 from New London High School.
He married Phyllis Hedman on April 19, 1958, in Aberdeen, S.D. They lived briefly in Willmar and Sunburg and then moved to Pine City and eventually settled in Mora in 1962.
He worked at a number of jobs and, in 1961, went to work as a state agricultural inspector until retiring in 1992. He participated in scouting, both as a scout and as an adult leader and received several awards including the Silver Beaver Award in 1983. He served on numerous committees at Calvary Lutheran Church and was also on the church council and was a member of Toastmasters International.
He is survived by his wife; children: Susan Myers of Mora, Steven (and Janice) of Grand Rapids and Scott (and Caroline) of Mora; and eight grandchildren.
