CLARA CITY -- Elmer Koenen, 84, of Clara City, died Saturday at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Harvey Anderson Clara City Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
He was born Feb. 22, 1925, in Sacred Heart to George and Bessie (Aiekens) Koenen. He grew up in the Sacred Heart/Renville area and helped his parents on the farm.
He married Caroline Mae Bakker on Jan. 23, 1949, in Renville. They farmed on his parents' farm for the next nine years. In 1957, they moved to Clara City and he began working for VSC Inc. and later worked for Luther Haven in Montevideo in maintenance until the early 1980s. He never fully retired as he worked part time for a number of people in the area.
He was a lifelong member of Bethany Reformed Church in Clara City.
He is survived by his sons: Jeff (and Renae) Koenen of Wheaton, and Kevin (and Cheryl) Koenen of Apple Valley; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Sept. 13, 2002, and one sister.
