Elsa A. Johnson-Claussen April 30, 1915 - April 10, 2009
BENSON -- Elsa A. Johnson-Claussen, 93, of Benson died April 10 at Swift County Benson Hospital.
The service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Benson. Burial will be in Benson City Cemetery.
Visitation will is one hour before the service at the church. Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson is handling arrangements.
She was born April 30, 1915, in Havelock Township, Chippewa County, to G.W. and Emma (Teichert) Maus. She grew up on a farm in Havelock Township and attended school through the eighth grade at Chippewa County District 51.
She married George O. Johnson on June 27, 1937, in Montevideo. They lived in Montevideo for 13 years, then the family moved to Belgrade and she helped run the Belgrade Bakery for 13 years. She also worked at various bakeries and grocery stores in Detroit Lakes. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Belgrade and Detroit Lakes. George died in 1983.
She married George Claussen on Jan. 30, 1986, in Lake Tahoe, Calif. They lived in Benson for the last 24 years.
She is survived by her husband; sons: Eugene (and Yvonne) Johnson of New Brighton, Dennis Johnson of Forest Lake, David (and Carol) Johnson of Chisago City, Gary (and Susan) Johnson of Tyler and Mark (and Janalee) Johnson of Minneapolis; seven stepchildren: Beatrice (and Richard) Olsen of Benson, Delores Walstrom of New London, Robert (and Helen) Claussen of Benson, Steve (and Kathy) Claussen of Glenwood, Stan (and Katherine) Claussen of Montevideo, Ronald (and Mary) Claussen of Montevideo and Karen (and Greg) Pavel of Chisago City; 16 grandchildren; 19 stepgrandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and one sister: Erna Rasmussen of Maple Grove.
She was preceded in death by her first husband; one son: LeRoy Johnson; five brothers and four sisters.
