REDWOOD FALLS -- Elsie Cox, 91, of Redwood Falls, died Saturday at Redwood Area Hospital in Redwood Falls.
The service will be at 11 a.m. today at Cornerstone Christian Church in Redwood Falls. Burial will be at Redwood Falls Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Nelson-Martin Funeral Service of Redwood Falls is handling the arrangements.
She was born Aug. 21, 1917, in Sheridan Township, Redwood County, to Joseph and Rosalie (Maxa) French. She spent her early years in rural Seaforth and began her education there. She moved with her family to rural Morgan and then rural Olivia, where she attended country schools. She attended Olivia Public School for eighth grade and lived in town and worked for her room and board. She graduated from Redwood Falls High School in 1935.
On July 18, 1940, she married Jacob Cox in Estherville, Iowa. They moved to Manhattan Beach, Calif., in 1941 and returned to Redwood Falls in 1943. She was a homemaker.
She was an active member of Cornerstone Christian Church. She served as a Bible school teacher, deaconess and was also president of the Sunshine Circle. She was a member and office holder in the Degree of Honor and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and had served as its chaplain.
She is survived by her son: Robert (and Ellen) of Rochester; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1986; daughter: Sharon Rasmussen; son-in-law: Roger Rasmussen; one grandson; two sisters; and two brothers.
