Elvera Harms Behlen Oct. 28, 1919 - April 22, 2009
APPLETON -- Elvera Gertrude Johanna Harms Behlen, 89, of Appleton died April 22 at Appleton Area Health Services.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton. Burial will be at the Appleton City Cemetery.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the services at the church. Arrangements are with Zniewski Funeral Home-Vaala Chapel in Appleton.
She was born Oct. 28, 1919, in Chanhassen to Wilbert and Mary (Wirtz) Jorissen. She attended school through the eighth grade at St. Hubert's School and graduated from Eden Prairie High School.
She married Gilbert Harms on June 11, 1941. She married John Behlen on Dec. 29, 1985. She was a homemaker and worked 18 years in Appleton school cafeterias. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was in the guild, the ladies aid, taught Sunday school, Bible school and Wednesday school. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels for several years.
She is survived by three children: Joyce Bertness of Indiana, Pa., Jerome (and Kris) Harms of Willow, Ark., and Thomas (and Marva) Harms of Pengillly; four step-children: Mary Aasland of Appleton, Mark (and Linda) Behlen of Minneapolis, Katherine (and David) Mennicke of St. Paul and Peter (and Amie) Behlen of Appleton; eight grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one sister: Myrtle Trick, of Norwood-Young America.
She is preceded in death by her husbands: Gilbert in 1978 and John in 2005; two granddaughers; one brother; and two sisters.
