Elwood M. Melin Nov. 25, 1930 - Oct. 21, 2008
CLARA CITY -- Elwood "Woody" Marlin Melin, 77, of Willmar died Tuesday at Clara City Care Center in Clara City.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Willmar. Burial will be in Salem Covenant Cemetery in rural Pennock.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., and continues for one hour prior to service at the church.
He was born on Nov. 25, 1930, in Willmar to Melvin and Pearl (Beckman) Melin. He grew up on a farm near Pennock and attended District 15 North and Kerkhoven High School.
He married Stella Hauge on March 11, 1951. He farmed near Kerkhoven, Pennock and Sunburg until 1957, when he moved to Willmar. He moved to Pennock in 1960. He worked for Culligan as a salesmanfrom 1957 to 2002. He also was a salesman for Air-Way Vacuums for many years.
He married Janet Beckman Johnson on Feb. 15, 1980, in Watertown, S.D. Following their marriage, they lived in Pennock and moved to Willmar in 1993. He was a resident of Clara City Care Center for the past six years.
He was involved with 4-H and PTA, served as a volunteer firefighter in Pennock and was the Pennock constable for many years.
While a member of Salem Covenant Church and later Cornerstone Baptist Church, he was active with the junior high youth groups, served as a trustee and head usher.
He is survived by his wife; children: Brenda (and Ken) Devine of Crystal and Kevin (and Mary) Melin of Duluth; daughter-in-law: Denice Melin of Cambridge; 10 grandchildren; sisters: Eldora Melin and Arlyce (and Wallis) Klause, all of Willmar.
He was preceded in death by his son: Gary; a brother and a sister.
