PRINSBURG - Emelyne Grace Brouwer was born December 6, 1934, in Ericson Township, Renville County, the daughter of Simon and Lucy (Asche) Wubben. She grew up in the Raymond area and received her education in the rural schools. As a young girl, she assisted new mothers with their families, worked as a seamstress at Bandbox Cleaners in Willmar and was a member of the first cosmetology class at Willmar Technical College. She worked part-time as a beautician for many years.
On June 29, 1962, she married Lloyd S. Brouwer. They lived in Clara City until 1967. They then moved to Prinsburg, where they owned and operated Lloyds Electric Service. Emelyne was a member of First Christian Reformed Church of Prinsburg, where she was active in Mission Club and quilting. She also volunteered at the New 2 You Thrift Store. She enjoyed baking, quilting and doing crafts. She especially loved spending time with her granddaughters.
Emelyne died on Thursday, August 8, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar. She attained the age of 78 years, 8 months and 2 days.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Brent and Tracy Brouwer of Raymond; and her granddaughters (her "Joys"), Whitney Joy, Natalie Joy and Nicole Joy Brouwer. Also surviving are three sisters, Alice (and Len) Isdahl of Willmar, Caroline (and Orrin) Brouwer of Renville and Helen Simmons of Pequot Lakes; a brother, Stan (and Sandy) Wubben of Raymond; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd in 2004; a son, Larry in 1982; and a brother-in-law, Tom Simmons.
