Environmental Initiative awards YES!
WILLMAR -- For a second consecutive year, the Environmental Initiative has awarded the Youth Energy Summit program for its environmental education efforts.
The Twin Cities-based nonprofit presented its environmental award to the YES! program at an event May 23 at the Nicollet Island Pavillion in Minneapolis.
YES! has expanded to offer 32 youth-led teams, with 10 teams now located in schools in west Central Minnesota.
Since its start in 2007, YES! has provided students an opportunity to develop environmentally focused projects that benefit their communities.
The projects range from the Willmar Public School's greenhouse project to a school-wide recycling program at Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City.
The Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center and the Southwest Initiative Foundation joined in 2007 to launch YES!
