Esther B. Ihnken May 27, 1916 - Feb. 20, 2009
WILLMAR -- Esther B. Ihnken, 92, of Willmar, died Friday at the GlenOaks Care Center in New London.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church in Willmar. Burial will be in the Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar.
She was born May 27, 1916, in Spirit Lake, Iowa, to Oscar and Luella (Chevalier) Haglund. She grew up in rural Windom, graduated from Windom High School in 1934 and attended Mankato Business College.
She married Adolph Ihnken on Oct. 1, 1939, in Windom. She lived in Windom while Adolph served during World War II. They moved to Willmar in 1950 and she was worked as a teller and secretary at the First National Bank and the Kandiyohi County Courthouse for 28 years. They moved to Kandiyohi after retiring and, in 1983, she moved to Centennial Square in Willmar. She had resided at GlenOaks Care Center in New London for the last four years.
She served her church as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and in various women's groups. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 40 years, a member of the Rice Hospital Auxiliary and also was a senior companion.
She is survived by her children: Douglas Ihnken of Wrenshall and Patricia (and Dwaine) Walthers of Willmar; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1983; daughter-in-law: Yvonne Ihnken; one sister and one brother.
