BELGRADE -- Eugene Frank Gerding, 91, of Melrose, formerly of Belgrade, died Sunday at Melrose Hospital.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Belgrade. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade with a 7:30 p.m. parish prayer service and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
He was born April 19, 1918, in Greenwald to John and Margaret (Deters) Gerding. He grew up in Greenwald and Elrosa, where he attended grade school.
He married Lorraine Trisco on March 29, 1940, in St. Cloud. They lived in Elrosa and moved to Belgrade in 1947. He worked for Belgrade Superior Feeds as a salesman until retiring in 1980. He continued his turkey growing operation and ownership of the Elrosa grain elevator into retirement. They moved to Melrose in 2004. He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Belgrade and served on parish council for many years. He also served on the Belgrade School Board, Belgrade Nursing Home Board and was a member of the Lion's Club.
He is survived by his children: Dale (and Mary) Gerding of Chicago, James (and Dodie) Gerding of Spokane, Wash., Susan (and Steven) Chirhart of North Oaks; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 2007 and one sister.
