WILLMAR - Evert I. Peterson 82, of Willmar, died on Saturday, December 8, 2012, at his home. His funeral will be 1:00 pm, Thursday, December 13, 2012, at the Evangelical Free Church in Willmar. Friends may call on Wednesday from 5 until 8:00 pm at the Harvey Anderson Funeral Home. There will be no visitation prior to the service on Thursday. Private family interment will be at Cloverleaf Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Benevolence Fund at the Evangelical Free Church.

Evert Iver Peterson was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on, December 28, 1929, the son of Iver Hemming and Florence (Erickson) Peterson. He grew up in Minneapolis, graduating from Minnehaha Academy in 1947. He continued his education at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, graduating in 1950, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Evert served in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1948-1953.

On October 7, 1950, Evert was united in marriage to Lorraine Nelson, at the First Covenant Church in Minneapolis. This union was blessed with three children. They moved to Willmar in 1954, where Evert became a business partner at MARACOM Corporation serving as a commercial artist. He became sole owner in 1962 and retired after 50 years with the company.

Evert was a visionary. Together, he and Lorraine were one of the founding families of the Evangelical Free Church in Willmar. He served in many areas including board chairman, elder, deacon, Sunday School teacher and building architect.

He was a member of the Willmar Noon Kiwanis, was active with Youth For Christ and Bibles for the World.

Surviving are his loving wife Lorraine; children, Gary (and Joanie) Peterson of Willmar, Terri (and Cal) Sixta of Paynesville and Karen (and Tim) Johnson of Monticello; eight grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister, Edith (and Jim) Krause of Waseca.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Harold.
