Excessive heat warning continues today into Wednesday in west central Minn.
Due to a prolonged period of heat and humidity, an excessive heat warning remains in effect for west central, central and southern Minnesota through 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Afternoon heat indices will exceed 105 degrees for several hours this afternoon and Wednesday afternoon, with overnight low temperatures only falling into the middle 70s to low 80s.
The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situations in which heat illnesses are likely.
Weather officials recommend drinking plenty of fluids and remaining out of the sun.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupations Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shade or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shade location. Heat stroke is a medical emergency and 911 responders should be called.
