Twenty-four drivers competed in the race for extra cash and a Charlie Nelson-crafted trophy to open the Kandiyohi County Fair in Willmar Wednesday with the summer's largest car-count unofficially at 101.

The grandstands were packed with spectators, with the crowd estimated at 850 people.

The grandstand was free with admission to the fair. Tonight and Saturday is Demo Derby I and II with the Tractor/Truck pull on Friday, each charging grandstand admission. Tribune photo by Rand Middleton.
