Walaker paid a $100 filing fee in lieu of collecting 300 signatures.

He said the prospect of getting permanent flood protection for Fargo was his top reason to run. He also likes the job.

"It's gone awfully quick. I've enjoyed the majority of what's happened over the last three and a half years," Walaker said.

No other candidates filed for Fargo City Commission by midafternoon Monday.

The election is June 8. The deadline for filing is 4 p.m. April 9.
