Authorities allege the 27-year-old man stabbed his 26-year-old girlfriend several times before fleeing Saturday afternoon. The woman was initially unresponsive when police found her in a vehicle stalled near the police station. Officers also found two children inside. Neither child was hurt. The victim later told police she was stabbed during a domestic argument.

A police news release said investigators believe the suspect ditched his own vehicle and stole another car during his escape and later set it on fire on a gravel road off Highway 14 near the Steele-Waseca county line.

Police Chief Andy Bohlen said authorities launched an "exhaustive search" that included the use of thermal imaging, helicopters, police dogs and multiple law enforcement agencies, but suspended the search Saturday night.

Authorities then asked for the public's help in finding the suspect, who had a physical disability and used a cane or walker to get around. They advised the public to consider him armed and dangerous.

The suspect was arrested without incident not far from the burned car around 1 p.m. Sunday after a citizen spotted him in a field, investigators told reporters at a news conference. He was covered in mud and suffering from hypothermia, and was taken to a hospital.

The woman's name was not released. She was airlifted to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale for surgery. Bohlen said he believed she was doing well.
