Cow milking contest is Thursdayat County Fair

WILLMAR -- The Kandiyohi County Dairy Association is hosting the second annual cow milking contest at 5 p.m. Thursday at the dairy building at the Kandiyohi County Fair in Willmar. The 2009 Kandiyohi County dairy royalty and Princess Kay finalists Bethany Urban and Emily Schueler will compete against radio station representatives from Q102, KWLM and K100, fair board members and FFA representatives.

Annual Farmfeststarts Tuesday in rural Redwood County

REDWOOD COUNTY -- The 28th annual Farmfest will be Tuesday through Thursday at the historic Gilfillan Estate in Redwood County.

The event attracts more than 35,000 attendees each year with educational forms, programs and entertainment. Attendees have the opportunity to explore Farmfest's returning specialty pavilions such as the AgriPreneurship Pavilion, Home and Garden Pavilion and the Outdoor Sports and Conservation Pavilion.

The forum schedule includes panel discussions on the new farm bill, climate change, the future of the ag and livestock industries, grain market in volatile times, plus the annual family farm of the year recognition program.

New this year is the women's breakfast, at 9 a.m. Thursday at Jackpot Junction. This event will feature a sit-down breakfast, a raffle with chances to win great prizes, and prominent featured speakers. This event is open to all women.

Returning for the second year are the FarmersOnly.com Live on Stage at 3 p.m. Tuesday and the Farmfest Auctioneering Competition at 3 p.m. Wednesday, on the main forum stage.

Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday. Tickets are $8 per person and free for those 18 and under. Get more information at www.farmshows.com.
