U of M Extension honors Beef Team
HUTCHINSON -- University of Minnesota Extension Dean Bev Durgan presented the Extension Beef Team with the Dean's Award for Distinguished Team during Extension's annual Fall Program Conference.
The team has served as a source of information for cattle and other ruminant animal producers, working with producers, industry and other state agencies in developing, coordinating and delivering educational programs across the state.
The Beef Team has made a difference in Minnesota's effort to meet the bovine tuberculosis challenge. Through their team effort with other state agencies and partners, the Beef Team works directly with producers in improving herd management and coping with the economic hardship created by the downgrade of Minnesota's TB status.
Team members include Rhonda Wulf, Extension Educator in Kandiyohi County.
Obama appoints Milan man to FSA panel
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar has announced that her recommendations to serve in the top positions of the United States Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency in Minnesota have been appointed by President Obama.
Earlier this year, Klobuchar recommended Kent Kanten of Milan to serve as an FSA state committee member. Kanten served in the same capacity for eight years during the Clinton administration. He and his wife own and operate a corn, soybean and sugar beet farm.
"These individuals understand Minnesota agriculture and will work hard to keep our farms and rural communities strong," said Klobuchar. "They recognize the importance of having a strong safety net for farmers and investing in the rural energy economy -- which will create jobs, boost our economy and help Minnesota farmers.
