Fault on transmission line causes early morning power outage in Willmar
WILLMAR - A Willmar Municipal Utilities spokesman says at approximately 2:45 a.m. today a fault was detected on the transmission line that feeds Kandiyohi Power Cooperative substation north of Willmar. This line is fed from Willmar Municipal Utilities sources, so the breakers feeding that line tripped out, said Wesley Hompe, interim co-manager of Willmar Utilities.
The fault caused the substation next to the Willmar Utilities power plant to trip out of power also. Areas affected by the outage included the north side, downtown and portions of the east and south sides near downtown.
By 4 a.m., the system was stabilized and power began to be restored to those affected. By 4:30 a.m., all customers were back on, said Hompe.
