Federal Reserve Bank official to speak in Willmar

WILLMAR -- Gary Stern, president and chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, will speak in Willmar this month at an event hosted by the Young Professionals group of the Willmar Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce.

Stern's talk, on "Financial Conditions and the Economic Outlet," will be presented at noon May 19 at The Oaks on Eagle Creek.

A brief question-and-answer session will follow.

Stern is co-author of "Too Big to Fail: The Hazards of Bank Bailouts." He has held his current position since 1985 and has 34 years of experience with the Federal Reserve Bank in Minneapolis and in New York. He also was a partner in a New York-based economic consulting firm. He has a degree in economics from Washington University in St. Louis and a Ph.D. in economics from Rice University, Houston.

Tickets are $20 for members of the Willmar Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and $40 for non-members. Tickets are available at the chamber office by calling 320-235-0300 or e-mailing kcarruth@willmarareachamber.com. Seating is limited to 200. RSVPs are required by Friday.
