Fern M. Avoles April 7, 1919 - July 19, 2013

GRANITE FALLS - Fern M. Avoles died on Friday, July 19th, 2013, at the Granite Falls Manor in Granite Falls, Minnesota. She and her twin sister, LaVerne, were born to Alma and Charles Britz on April 7, 1919 at Almelund, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Almelund. Fern married Anthony Walter Avoles on November 8, 1941 at Our Savior's Lutheran Parsonage in St. Paul, Minnesota. They made their home in St. Paul. They had three children: Rita, Charles and Debra. Fern was a wonderful homemaker and mother; and she enjoyed working in the office of their plumbing business for a few years. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, as well as being on the altar guild for many years. She and Walt enjoyed dancing to Old Time music, especially the polka. She always loved music, and she also took some piano lessons from Rita later in her life.

Fern is survived by her children: Rita (Bob) Knutson, Charles (Marge) Avoles, grandchildren Rebecca (Wayne) Herrmann, Robyn (Keith) Leverton, Randy (Jill) Knutson, Peter (Katy) Avoles, and Tony Avoles. She also had great-grandchildren, Roger, Sam, Veronica, Alex, Nathan, Randy Jr., Vanessa, Zak, Reese and Piper. She was preceded in death by her parents, 10 brothers and sisters, her husband Walt, daughter Debra, and grandson Nick. Her memorial service will be on Saturday, August 24th at 10:30 a.m. at Jehovah Lutheran Church in St. Paul, Minnesota. Visitation one hour before the service.
