WILLMAR - Wisconsin (Team Murray) scored 3 points in the 10th end to snap a 5-all tie and beat Alaska (Team Flippo) 8-5 to advance to the USA Curling Mixed National Championship semifinals.
Team Flippo, the youngest in the 10-team field with three teens and a 20-year old (Skip Ryan Flippo) had tied the tiebreaker 5-5 with two points in the 9th frame.Wisconsin will meet No. 1 seed Washington while No. 2 Connecticut and No. 3 North Dakota also duel at 4 p.m. today at the Willmar Civic Center's Blue Line Arena. The event is free to the public with enclosed balcony seating available.The championship and third-place draw will be played at 1 p.m. on Saturday.Ten teams competed Saturday through Thursday to reach the final four. Wisconsin and Alaska each finished 5-4 necessitating the tiebreaker.
