Figure skating shows on ice this weekend at Willmar, Minn., Civic Center
WILLMAR — The Diamond Edge Figure Skating annual show “One World … On Ice” will be at 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday at the Willmar Civic Center.
The annual event each year demonstrates the progress the skaters have made and gives them the opportunity to perform in a non-competitive environment in front of a large audience. While some skaters do perform in competitive skating events throughout the year, this show is a true theatrical production.
The 60 skaters come from Willmar, New London-Spicer, ACGC, BOLD, KMS, Paynesville and MACCRAY school districts. Solos will be performed by Diamond Edge Figure Skating Club members Holly Kidrowski, performing to “It’s A Wonderful Life,” and Sydney Fischer, performing to “Egyptian Medley.”Other small group specialty numbers include a senior spotlight by Lexie Kaenel and also one by Jessie Lee; a duet with Mitchel Markkanen and Lindsey Peters; two trios, one with Hannah Erickson, Kayla Norling and Kaitlin Danzeisen, and the other with Madisson Folsted, April Groff and Adeline Hayden; and a quartet with Ashlyn Bergh, Alex Suchy, Jessica Mulder and Bailey Erickson. This year’s guest performer is Adam Rippon. The oldest of six children, Rippon grew up in a small town just on the outskirts of Scranton, in Clarks Summit, Penn. At age 24, he currently trains in California and will perform two numbers during each show this weekend. Rippon is a consistent top-10 performer in men’s championships and is the only man to win back-to-back World Junior championships. He was silver medalist at the 2012 U.S. Championships, and is ranked eighth in the U.S. and Four Continents championships.
Advance tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for ages 4 to 17 and are available at Cash Wise Foods or Cub Foods; $12 and $7 at the door; ages 3 and under admitted free.
